Becoming mamá, part 2

Athena Lunaria.

Our heavenly second child is on the way.

She is coming soon!

We took a lot less time naming her (we also found out around 19-20 weeks). Finding out she was a girl was providence and to be vulnerable I have struggled a lot in growing this beautiful little one. Of course I write this before she has been born and can only attest to the vast differences between my last pregnancy and this one when it comes to my mental, emotional, spiritual and physical state.

It has been marked with some of the aftermath of becoming mother to a son. My son has been with me throughout this whole journey. I was so blessed to have up to 6 months of being with him, bonding and growing as a mamá.

I know I could be able to do the same for Athena and hope this new becoming goes as graciously as my first. My husband and I are excited and anticipating with some more peace than our first. We don’t recommend having a baby during a pandemic but learned so much about the needed boundaries and mindfulness of becoming new or recurring parents. We hope to do a couple of the following things we have learned have worked well for us.

  1. Take each trimester with it's highs and lows

  2. Nest the entire pregnancy, and work together

  3. Make time for spend with each other, parent hood can take a lot of time from each other and your new growing womb baby

  4. Include our baby as much as possible in the transition

  5. Teach your little one to anticipate and expect a new baby in their space

  6. Find time to rest, eat, play, plan, pray and protect your heart and mind in the process
